Postby Alex Tozer » Sat Apr 24, 2004 12:37 am

Can anyone tell us is it permissable to portray Baha u llah or the Bab in plays or film?

Would appreciate any comments around this subject

Thanks

Alex :)

Dear Alex,

No, it is not permitted (see below). There was a film called "The Message" about Islam which I think it managed to do a nice job avoiding filming the Prophet, as one example you might be interested to see if you wanted some idea of how it might be done.

"An examination of the letters of the beloved Guardian makes it absolutely clear that it is not permissible to portray on the stage the figure of the Manifestation of God, nor even of the Master... The Universal House of Justice considers it inappropriate to represent the Guardian of the Faith as a character in a play."

(Universal House of Justice, Compilation on the Arts: Guidelines for Baha'i Artists, no. 70 at http://www.cat.pdx.edu/~pamela/bahai/co ... part5.html )

best wishes,
Brett
