pray for parents and other family members

Postby guest » Fri Apr 21, 2006 2:04 pm

I've read that praying for parents is seemly for every baha'i, and has great impact on both the parents and the child. what about the prayer for other family members, like brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces, or uncle and aunts? are there such a definte impact on them too?

please let me know the original writings about it if you know any. I am the only baha'i in my family, and I love my family dearly. I want to know how i can help them by praying.

Thank you so much! happy Ridvan!

prayer for parents and other family members

The Bab states this most clearly when he says:

It is seemly that the servant should, after each prayer, supplicate God to bestow mercy and forgiveness upon his parents. Thereupon God's call will be raised: 'Thousand upon thousand of what thou hast asked for thy parents shall be thy recompense!' Blessed is he who remembereth his parents when communing with God. There is, verily, no God but Him, the Mighty, the Well-Beloved. - p 94, Selections from the Writings of the Bab

After I discovered this spiritual principle and began to pray for my parents each day, my relationships with my parents improved noticeably. I see no reason why the same spiritual principle also wouldn't apply to siblings.

Best of luck,

Curt

To beleive we have the power of transmitting
something, or healing anything just by reciting
a text printed in a book, is to beleive in magic and superstitions.
These days people play tom-toms to force the rain to come down.
Of course it does not work, but superstitious people beleive it does.

You cannot become a special channel trough which
are distributed spiritual energies around according to
your personal preferences. Humans have not those capacities.
The more prayers you do, the greater your own despear is, without you
knowing it.
