Jonah can respond (if he hasn't already) to whether his or the system's email online here may be outdated/having troubles, but as far as sending a private message (which should be forwarded to the person's email), this can be done by going to the site, "clicking on "messages" in the top left hand corner of the screen, and entering the user name. Altneratively, you can click "pm" (or "email") at the immediate bottom of a post of the user to whom you wish to send an email.

The post you were being notified about, I believe, was the same one I'd deleted, which must have also affected the email bounce behavior you describe. And then I deleted your follow-up post, which basically just asked what had happened and so wasn't necessary to leave online.
As Brett notes, at the bottom of my posts (as with many other registered users) there's a "pm" button and an "email" button, both of which should work.
