Anyone have any access to the Kitáb-i-Badí'?

Postby Pouria_19 » Tue Jul 13, 2004 12:11 am

I was just wondering if anyone has any access to Bahá'u'lláh's second Apologia -apart from the Kitáb-i-Iqán- this time defending his own faith, the Kitáb-i-Badí'. It is Bahá'u'lláh's lengthiest work, comprising of over 800 pages in the original language!!! Mr. Adíb Taherzadeh gives a brief description of this work in his Revelation of Bahá'u'lláh Vol. 2, p.373. Mr. Nader Saedi has a marvelous chapter in his book, Logos and Civilization analyzing its content.
So once again I ask, does anyone have any access to it? Any aid would be much appreciated.
-Pouria

Sorry, I should have asked if anyone had any access to it in the original language, due to it not being translated.

<blockquote><b>Whoops! Ignore the following post.</b> Pouria (below) just pointed out I was confusing the Bayan with the Badi. -Jonah</blockquote>The whole thing is online in Persian only at http://www.h-net.org/~bahai/areprint/ba ... bayanf.htm .

This book has never been translated in or published in English. However, it has been translated entirely into French by A.L.M. Nicolas, 1911-1914. This volume can be found in some libraries, or possibly obtained by inter-library loan. A partial translation of the French into English is at http://bahai-library.com/provisionals/bayan/ . Denis MacEoin also started a translation into English, http://bahai-library.com/provisionals/bayan.html . Finally, E.G. Browne translated a fairly lengthy summary of the Bayan, which was published in <i>Selections from the Writings of E.G. Browne,</i> and this can still be ordered from George Ronald.

For some other notes, see http://bahai-library.com/resources/tabl ... notes.html

You might have mistaken the Kitáb-i-Badí' with the Báb's Persian Bayan, or maybe it was my fault. But there is a definite difference.

Dear Pouria,

Although I could be mistaken, I seem to remember that the Kitáb-i-Badi' has not been translated since it dealt largely with the now (and here) obscure matter of the prophecies of the Báb and Bahá'u'lláh's fulfillment of them.

As you may know there are a few references in God Passes By to this work (p. 28, 172, 176).

Sorry, but I don't think I know any more.

take care,
Brett
