- 1925-08-03 — The opening of the 17th Universal Congress of Esperanto in Geneva. This congress marked the first public melding of the Bahá'í Faith and Esperanto. Shoghi Effendi had asked that Julia Culver join Martha Root as representatives. It was attended by Ella Goodall Cooper and Dr Adelbert Muhlsehlegel from Stuttgart who gave a short talk in Esperanto. Also in attendance were Dr Sophie and Lydia Zamenhof, daughters of the late Dr L L Zamenhof. It was here that Lidia Zamenhof first encountered the Bahá'í Faith. [MR231-233]

Nine Hands were chosen to serve as Custodians of the Faith residing in the Holy Land. [BBD57; BW13:342; DH215]
- The Hands residing in the Holy Land were established as a legal body under the title 'The Custodians of the Bahá'í World Faith'.
- The Hands chosen as first Custodians are Rúhíyyih Khánum, Mason Remey, Amelia Collins, Leroy Ioas, Hasan Balyuzi, 'Alí Akbar Furútan, Jalál Kházeh, Paul Haney and Adelbert Mühlschlegel. [BW13:345–6; MC40–1]

Adelbert Mühlschlegel, Hand of the Cause of God, passed away at his pioneer post in Athens, Greece. (b.16 June 1897) [BW18:613; VV52]

- Shoghi Effendi had appointed him among the second contingent on the 29th of February, 1952. [MoCxxiii]
- Adelbert Milhlschlegel, M.D. (1897-1980) received
a Tablet from ' Abdu'I-Bahá and became a
close collaborator of Shoghi Effendi who elevated
him to the rank of Hand of the Cause. In November
1957 he was asked by Ruhiyyih Khanum to
wash and anoint the Guardian's body for burial.
Speaking a dozen languages, he taught the Bahá'í
Faith in both eastern and western Europe, India,
Africa, and South America. Adelbert MiihlschJegel
worked on many important translations, wrote a
World History, and left a book of poetry. He
passed away in Athens and is buried at the foot of
