  1. 1914-01-00 — Mrs J. A. Clift (not a Bahá'í) gave a public talk on "Bahaism" ot the Current Events Club of the Ladies Reading Room in St. John's. The local newspaper carried news of this event and printed the text of the talk. [OBCC109]
  2. 1927-00-02 — Ugo and Angeline Giachery spent two days in St. John's, NL on a stopover while on a cruise ship.
  3. 1945-08-19 — Lloyd Gardner held the first public Bahá'í meeting in St. John's, NL entitled, "A Bahá'í Lecture on World Unity". [OBCC193]
  4. 1949-10-08 — Margaret Reid of Toronto re-located to St. John's becoming the first Bahá'í pioneer to that province. [BN No 227 January 1950 106BE p5]

      Bruce Matthew came to Canada in 1951 from Scotland via Hertfordshire and moved to Toronto in 1953 where he encountered the Faith after responding to a newspaper in The Toronto Star. The advertisement was for a talk by Laura Davis at a public meeting at the Bahá'í Centre. Willing to go "anywhere" he was asked to move to Goose Bay, NL and arrived on the 21st of April, 1954, the deadline established by Shoghi Effendi for being named a Knight of Bahá'u'lláh by Shoghi Effendi. Bruce has an interesting story of his miraculous healing just prior to his boarding the plane for Goose Bay. [KoB270-271]
    • During the time he spent there, from April 1954 to January 1956, Bruce worked at the hospital and later as a court reporter for the United States Air Force until his job was phased out.
    • In consultation with the Goals Committee, Bruce pioneered to Charlottetown, PE, then St. John's, NL, and Windsor, ON. The Goals Committee then suggested that Bruce go to Moncton, NB, and he finally settled in the community of Alliston, ON, north of Toronto. [CBN Vol4 Issue 2 Jun 1991 p11; KoB271; BW13p453]

      The passing of Knight of Bahá'u'lláh Kathleen Hamilton Weston (b. Elginburg, ON, 1927) in North Saanich, BC. Kathleen had a number of pioneering adventures:
    • Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (1952 - 1953)
    • Magdalen Islands (Sep - Dec 1953) for which she was awarded the title "Knight of Bahá'u'lláh" [KoB278]
    • Clinton, ON (Dec 53 - Dec 54). 26 Feb 1954 married Gordon MacLeod.
    • Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (1955 -1960)
    • St. John's, Newfoundland (1960 - 1961)
    • Royston, BC (1961 - 1967)
    • Hugelsheim, Germany (1967 - 1971)
    • Douglastown, New Brunswick (1971 - 1975)
    • George Town, Cayman Islands, (1976 - 1980)
    • Nicholls Town, Andros Island, Bahamas (10 Nov 1984 - 1999) Returned to Canada for medical treatment 9 June 2002 married Ernest Barkes in Scotsburn, NS, moved to North Saanich, BC
