| notes | References to 'Bâbysme' throughout. This book, originally published in Paris, 1865, is devoted in large measure to the history and doctrine of the Babi Religion ('Bâbysme'), and is widely regarded as having introduced the Faith to the West. Shoghi Effendi, referring to Gobineau as 'the noted French diplomat and brilliant writer' (GPB: 76), published numerous passages of this work in the French footnotes of Nabíl's Narrative of the Dawn-Breakers (see 7.1612-1616), subsequently translated into English by Emily McBride Perigord (see 7.2110-2111). E. G. Browne credits 'Les Religions et Les Philosophies' as having inspired his life-long interest in and study of the Faith. |
