Notes O. A. Merritt-Hawkes was the pen-name of Mary Weston, 1877-1951. In a book about her, Onèra Amelia Merritt-Hawkes: Author and Scientist of Upton Upon Severn, she is described as "a biologist and educator, stalwart of the Eugenics Society, author of three travel books, two volumes of memoirs and a novel..." (abebooks).
