Relativism Reconsidered in Bahá'í Scriptures

Zarrín Caldwell

2026

Abstract: This paper examines the relativist theory that has framed intellectual discourse for ~200 years. While finding some common cross overs, the article takes a more critical view of these theories in light of the Bahá’í writings. It further explores how the more mystical texts in the Bahá’í Faith may enlighten this discussion, the broader context of religious revelation across faith traditions, and potential applications related to the life of society. While the paper offers a secular and historical context, the writings of leading figures of the Bahá’í Faith – Bahá’u’lláh as Prophet-Founder, His son ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, and the Faith’s Guardian, Shoghi Effendi – are primary references.
