The Mother Book of the Bábí Dispensation. Comprising nine vahids (unities) of nineteen chapters or babs (gates)—with the exception of the last unity, which has only ten gates—the greater part of the work was written in the prison of Mákú, but, contrary to some prevalent assumptions, the last parts may have been written in Chihriq, after the Báb was interrogated by the clerics in Tabriz. The Persian Bayán abrogates Islamic laws and traditions and sets down new laws and teachings. However, the various laws are discussed as symbols referring to deep spiritual meanings and vehicles to prepare the people for the advent of Him Whom God shall make manifest. Both the form and content of the book affirm the underlying metaphysics of unity in which all things are manifestations of an inner reality which is the revelation of God within them. |

Glorified art Thou, O Lord my God! I and all things bear witness unto Thee that verily Thou art God, and that there is none other God but Thee, alone, without peer. Thine is the Kingdom and the Dominion, Thine the Glory and the Power, Thine the Might and the Empyrean, Thine the Strength and the Brilliance, Thine the Sovereignty and the human realm. Thou givest life and causest death, then bringest death and givest life, and verily Thou art the Ever-Living Who dieth not, the King Who passeth not away, the Sovereign Who changeth not, the Single One Who vanisheth not... powerful over all things. I testify, and all things testify [3.5s]... ...Should a man be endued with knowledge, and behold Thy [God’s] divine verses revealed during earlier times |

Glorified be He before Whom bow down in adoration all who dwell in the heavens and all who dwell upon the earth. Say: all are prostrate before Him. And praise be unto God, Whom all who dwell in the heavens and all who dwell upon the earth do glorify; say: all are humbly obedient unto Him [3.5s]... ...As the Persian children say, the root principles of religion are five and its derivatives six.
