News reached Àbdu'l-Bahá of the impending conflict in the Balkan Peninsula. [Àbdu'l-Bahá in America

He and his companions took the trolley to see Niagara Falls and on His arrival at His hotel back in Buffalo He was greated by awaiting journalists,

The evening talk was about unity and amity among the peoples of the East and the West and also about the degrees of love which bring the whole creation into existence. [MD252-254]

'Abdu'l-Bahá spent a total of 10 days in the house of Miss Wilson. Upon her passing in 1930 she willed the house to Shoghi Effendi and he asked the National Assembly to manage the property on his behalf. On the 27th of September, 1935 he executed a deed of trust transferring the property to the Trustees for the benefit of the NSA. [BW7p84]

At some point during the visit He attended the wedding of Ruby Breed, the younger sister of Florence Breed. The wedding was held in the Breed home and was presided over by an Episcopalian minister. [AY96]

The Second Congress was held at The Hague, August 22–27, 1912. Twenty-three countries sent official government delegates. Over 1,000 members were officially enrolled for the congress. Over 200 papers of some 2,000 words each were contributed and appeared in the five published volumes of more than 1,200 pages. [Wikipedia]

From Alexandria, Egypt, 'Abdu'l-Bahá sent a paper called Universal Education.

MacNutt arrived in Chicago on August 8th. At ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s instructions, a feast was held on August 10, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Lesch, where the entire Chicago Bahá'í community was invited to be the guests of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá. MacNutt delivered to the community ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s message of unity and love. The election was held the following day the 11th of August.

On Sunday evening, the 1rth of August, the Chicago Assembly selected a "Spiritual Meeling'' of nine, composed of men and women. whose service-according to the wish of Abdul-Ilahá -is, first, to propagate the teachings of the Revelation, and, second, to attend to other matters necessary lo the welfare of the assembly. • He was the younger half-brother of Bahá'u'lláh and a follower of the Báb who conferred on him a high station and leading role in the Bábí community. Later he became an opponent of Bahá'u'lláh. Shoghi Effendi described him as "the arch-breaker of the Covenant of the Báb." GPB165

She was an extremely educated woman for the time, she studied piano, pipe organ, and voice culture at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and in 1889. Marshall was the first African American to complete the program and earn a Mus.B. degree (Bachelor of Music degree). In 1903 she founded the Washington Conservatory of Music. According to blackpast.org "Marshall's conservatory was a landmark in the history of black education. The Centre sponsored regular concerts for the black community, trained many prominent musical professionals and attracted the nation's most talented musicians as teachers. As the ship that finally brought "'Abdu'l-Bahá to the shores of the American continent passed by the Statue of Liberty, He threw His arms wide open in greeting, saying "There is the new world's symbol of liberty and freedom. After being 40 years a prisoner I can tell you that freedom is not a matter of place. It is a condition. Unless one accept dire vicissitudes he will not attain. When one is released from the prison of self, that is indeed a release." ['Abdu'l-Bahá in Their Midst p.56; SYH54]

At the time Italy was at war with Turkey and there was an air of animosity towards the Bahá'ís, who were taken for Turks. Three of their party, Áqá Khusraw, Mirzá Munír-i-Zayn and Shoghi Effendi were diagnosed as having eye infections, deemed unfit to make the journey and put ashore. Dr. Amin Farid supported this decision and insisted to 'Abdu'l-Bahá that Shoghi Effendi should be sent away although he had earlier discredited the diagnosis of the Italian doctor on earlier. Some North American Bahá'ís who were waiting for the steamer boarded the ship to see `Abdu'l-Bahá. Among them were Mr and Mrs [Percy] Woodcock and their daughter from Canada, Mr and Mrs Austin from Denver, Colorado, and Miss [Louisa] Mathew, a friend from London, who made the rest of the journey with them to New York. 'Abdul'-Bahá and His party embarked from Alexandria on the White Star Line Liner RMS Cedric for New York via Naples. They departed Naples on the 30th of March and made a call at Gibraltar. Three of His party were forced to leave the ship for supposed "medical' reasons. Among them was His grandson, Shoghi Effendi. [AB171; GPB281; ABF274; ABITM50-52; SYH50-51]

In an interview in 1979 with Gol Aidun, Hand of the Cause Mr. ‘AbduT-Qasim Faizi recounted the story of Mishkin-Qalam’s acceptance of the BaháT Faith: . . . before Mishkin Qalam accepted the Bahá'í Faith, he was a “dervish” with long, flowing hair, detached from the world and attached only to his calligraphy. One day, while he was breaking his journey, he was given a room to share with a stranger. When Mishkin-Qalam entered the room, he greeted the stranger with the invocation "Yá Alláh!” (O God!). The stranger who happened to be a Bahá'í, asked him whether he knew God since he had mentioned His name. Mishkin-Qalam replied, “Of course.” The stranger replied, “No, for you must know the Prophet of your time to know God.” The stranger then told Mishkin-Qalam all about Bahâ’u’llâh, and by dawn the latter accepted the Bahá'í Faith and the next day accompanied the stranger on his journey towards Baghdad and eventually came into the presence of Bahá'u'lláh in Adrianople.
